This article walks you through the steps needed for transitioning your Intel® INDE Beta projects to Intel® INDE 2015

It would be helpful to know the key differences in the installation of the two products before upgrading from INDE Beta to INDE 2015.

 INDE Beta

INDE 2015

Installer installs INDE Hub from which the user can selectively choose to install the components of INDE. Users can return to INDE Hub anytime they want to install a new component.

INDE suite-level installer gives options to choose the development environment and features during installation itself. Users need to run the installer again to add/remove features.

INDE Beta was a free product. Registration of the product was done through Intel Developer Zone when the user registers before downloading the product installer.

INDE Starter Edition is free and hence no license key is needed for registration and activation of the product. For Professional and Ultimate Editions of the product, registration and activation is done by keying in the serial number obtained for that edition.

INDE Beta was available only for Windows* host and Android* target devices.

INDE 2015 is available in three flavors:

  1. Windows* host & Android* target
  2. Windows* host & Windows* target
  3. OS X* host & Android* target

Component updates are done through the hub where the user gets a notification when an update is available.

Feature updates are done through Intel® Software Manager.

Component uninstallation is separate from INDE uninstallation. For example, if the user needs to uninstall INDE Beta, then the components had to be uninstalled separately from the Control Panel before uninstalling INDE Beta itself.

INDE suite-level installer can be invoked again to uninstall any feature of INDE. Uninstalling INDE 2015 will automatically uninstall all the features and third party tools that came with it.

Installation of an IDE for Android* development was facilitated through the component called “Environment Setup” in the hub. The options were

     1) Eclipse*,

     2) Integration into Visual Studio* and

     3) Android Studio*.

Once an IDE is chosen, there was no way of switching to another IDE unless the Environment Setup was uninstalled.

IDEs for Windows* and Android* development is facilitated through a feature called “IDE Integration” which prompts the user to choose his/her favorite IDE from the following options,

  1. Eclipse*
  2. Integration into Visual Studio*
  3. Android Studio* or
  4. Alternatively choose to skip IDE Integration if the user has an existing IDE

Users can install more than one IDE by invoking the installer again. Please note that INDE does not install Visual Studio*. There should be an existing installation of Visual Studio* for INDE to integrate into it.

If you ran into installation issues, User forum was the primary mode of getting support.

If you run into installation issues, there are two primary modes of support,

  1. User forum
  2. Intel Premier Support (For Professional & Ultimate Editions)

Upgrade to INDE 2015

If you installed the INDE Beta on your system, we recommend that you completely remove the Beta version before installing the INDE 2015 product. INDE Beta is no longer supported. However for further releases of INDE including INDE 2015 , you do not need to remove previous versions before installing a newer version of the INDE product.

Now, to transition your project from INDE Beta to INDE 2015,

  • Make sure you save your project files in a separate workspace directory if it is within the installation directory of INDE Beta
  • Uninstall INDE Beta and all of its components. How?
    • Locate Intel® Integrated Native Developer Experience Beta from the Control Panel and right-click to uninstall Intel INDE hub. This does not uninstall the Intel INDE components.
    • Locate the Environment Setup from the Control Panel and right-click to uninstall. This uninstalls Intel HAXM and other Android tools from the system that was installed through the Intel INDE Environment Setup.
    • Locate an Intel INDE component from the Control Panel and right-click to uninstall. Repeat for all Intel INDE components
  • Install Intel® INDE 2015. Once you have the license key for the product, follow the steps in Release Notes for a brief installation guide.
  • Choose the same IDE on which your project was based on in Intel® INDE Beta
    • Please note that Intel® INDE 2015 does not support the integration of IDE plugins with pre-existing environments. If you wish to use a pre-existing version of the Android* SDK or NDK, choose the option from the installation menu to skip IDE Integration or alternatively select to install a second instance of these tools and manage your environmental configuration variables (NDK_ROOT, ANDROID_HOME) appropriately.  If you are using a version of Android Studio less than 0.8x, it is strongly recommended that you update Android Studio.
  • Open your project with the IDE that came with Intel® INDE 2015
    • You may choose to install multiple IDEs by invoking the installer again and choosing a different IDE this time and unchecking the features of INDE that were already installed.
  • And have fun creating new applications with Intel® INDE 2015. For any questions, please visit https://software.intel.com/en-us/intel-inde-support
